What they all share (commonalities)

All are botulinum toxin type A (or formulations thereof) that act as neuromodulators: they block the release of acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction, which reduces muscle contraction and softens dynamic wrinkles.

All require injection by a qualified medical provider.

All carry similar risks and side effects: temporary bruising, swelling, local weakness, ptosis (drooping eyelid), or diffusion of effect if not placed properly.

The units (dosing strength) across brands are not interchangeable. You can’t say “20 units of Botox = 20 units of Dysport” (or vice versa). Each has its own calibration.

RESTYLANE

This filler is used for all types of wrinkles and imperfections and may also be used for the lips. It will improve your skin in any way you want. You can lift your face, reduce wrinkles, define and contour your cheeks, and even plump your lips!

JUVEDERM VOLUMA

This filler corrects cheek imperfections by lifting them and reducing fine lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. It may also be injected into the chin to improve its profile. This filler creates a natural, young, beautiful look!

JUVEDERM VOBELLA

This filler may be injected into the lips to increase their fullness and definition. It may also be injected into the under eyes, which creates fullness. This allows the eyes to look awake and bring a whole knew look to your face. Essentially, this filler plumps skin for all the right places!

JUVEDERM VOLLURE

This filler may be used to reduce and contain fine lines and wrinkles, creating a younger look.

SCULPTRA

The body's natural production of collagen creates volume in the skin and decreases wrinkles and fine lines. However, as we age, collagen production becomes harder, commonly resulting in wrinkles and fine lines. With this filler, you can get the collagen you need, providing your face with beautiful, wrinkle-free skin.

PDO THREADS

This is a non-invasive procedure that performs the job of a surgical facelift. This filler can prevent you from going under a scalpel but can tighten and lift your skin as if you did. It is best used for sagging skin as it quickly tightens and smooths.

Practical considerations & caveats

  • Injector technique matters a lot.

Even the “best” product won’t perform well if placed poorly.

  • Dose, muscle strength, area treated, and individual metabolism

all strongly influence onset and duration.

  • Real-world results may vary from trial data.

Some patients may find that Daxxify, for example, doesn’t last the “full 6 months” in their case.

  • Availability & cost

Newer agents like Daxxify and Letybo tend to cost more (due to novelty, development cost, etc.), and may not be available in all clinics yet.

  • Switching between brands

may sometimes help when effect wanes because of potential tolerance or antibody formation to one product.

  • Safety profile is broadly similar,

but rare serious adverse events (spread of toxin effect, swallowing difficulty, etc.) are possible with any neuromodulator.
